Anime-Expo 2009

Posted by RubberNinja Jul. 3, 2009 @ 7:56 AM EDT

Just another reminder that I'm there all 4 days. I'm attending with the following friends.

Princess Aurora
ChannelCat (creator of SheezyArt)
Skraggy
Dino
Tomamoto
Sadie/Ultraneko (From Sadie's Gaming Infection)
Nandi
Fthreat

I walked around today dressed as a sniper from TF2.. Except I didn't have a weapon, so I walked around with a Koala puppet on my hand. I got some strange looks. One girl asked if I was RubberNinja.. Which came as a bit of a surprise lmao.

Good times.

I'll post some pictures and movies later.

I have huge news... :D!! + Anime-Expo 2009

Posted by RubberNinja Jun. 25, 2009 @ 9:46 PM EDT

Recently I posted news of me applying for an animation studio opening in my home town... Well.....

The word is in. I made the very top of the short listing for an animation position at the Perth studio that'll be working on the second season of the flash animated childrens series Dogstar!

Dogstar:

.

.

I recieved a call from their Melbourne studio yesterday afternoon. They were telling me that I'd be doing character animation and scene planning and that they wanted me to meet with the head of the Perth studio next week. Only the thing was it turns out that the person I'll be meeting with is my old traditional animation teacher Stephen! I remember he was probably one of the cooler teachers at my school, he was a huge Dan Paladin fan and as I recall he worked at Sydney Disney with Adam Phillips before it closed down (I guess the fact I have Mr Fulp down as a reference should help if hes a Behemoth fan hehehe). I haven't GOT the job yet but it seems I have a very good chance at it right now! So yeah, I'd say I'm practically a shoe in right now.

This is pretty big for me. I've never had a chance to work on an actual TV series in a studio enviroment before. I've dreamed of something like this for years, I can't believe I'm almost there.

Only thing is they're asking that I do a short animation using some of their character symbols as a bit of a test thingy. I don't have the material yet, but when I get it I'll be pushing out something awesome for them before I leave for California at 10am on Wednesday morning!

Thanks to everyone who wished me luck, I guess it helped.

Oh and I'd like to bring to everyones attention my art portal submissions. I have a few oldies in there as well as some more recent and new disturbing stuff such as female Egoraptor making out with female RTIL (which is a homage to Comic-Con 08) and the Newgrounds Gender Bender. I also finished a dandy commission for a swell chap named Afro Ninja.

On another note I should probably mention that I'll be attending Anime-Expo next week in LA! It's not really my scene considering I'm not really into anime all that much.. But quite a few friends of mine attend, so its rather fun to go to anyway.

I'll be there with the following swell people:
Princess Aurora
ChannelCat (creator of SheezyArt)
Skraggy
Otakun
Tomamoto
Sadie/Ultraneko (From Sadie's Gaming Infection)
Nandi
Fthreat

I might also add this is the same convention last year that spawned these abominations:

.

.

.

.

(Sorry Ben!)

You'll be able to find me there in either my old smelly GT shirt or in one of my many NG shirts. Though for one of the days I'll be dressing up as the Sniper from TF2 for a laugh (everyone else I'm going with is doing a TF2 thing as well.. so the Sniper seemed like a logical choice for an Australia). Never really done anything like that before, but I think it'll be a good laugh. I bought a real ANZAC hat and everything!

Then at the end of the month you'll be able to see me at Comic-Con.. No word on if I'll do the Rubber Phone again lmao...

Peace,

-Ross

P.S. Also yeah RIP MJ. Moon walk your way into those pearly gates mate.

Commissions!.. And wish me luck :x..

Posted by RubberNinja Jun. 11, 2009 @ 12:20 PM EDT

Just yesterday I applied for a position in the only real decent 2D animation studio I know of here in Perth. They're well known in Australia for developing the series Dogstar and Quads (both of which are developed in Flash). I caught wind of the three openings over a newsletter, so I sent them my latest showreel!.. I once had an interview there in 2005, but was unable to take it due to my Animation Diploma studies... No real guarentee at all I'll get one of the three jobs on offer, but it's a nice thought! Wish me luck!..... Please?

.

I don't know how many people will really be interested in this, but I thought it was worth an attempt anyway. I'm opening up art commissions! I haven't really done this in yeaaaars.

I'm heading to California soon on July 1st for a month and I'd like to try and make some extra money before I go, also I had to pay for my sites hosting recently.. So the money would be helpful.

I have all the details and costs here.. And if you choose to buy one off me you can do so through this link (but please read the instructions on the post first)...

I'm only taking a very limited number of them, so I will pull the plug on them once I reach a reasonable amount (at the unlikely scenario I do). I'll be sure to get them all done before July 1st when I leave.

I have a bunch of my art shiz from over the past few years up here if you feel like checking it out.

Other then that I hope to see most of you at either Anime-Expo or Comic-Con!

Peace,

-Ross

My student needs a programmer! + Other stuff

Posted by RubberNinja May. 27, 2009 @ 5:27 AM EDT

Just putting the call out to programmers to join forces with one of my awesome students Byron for Power of 3.. He's a rather talented young chap! He was working on a thing for Pico day, but because of exams he dropped it.. You can view a rough animation he did of P-Bot here. If there are any programmers out there that would like to collaborate with him, just shoot him a PM. I believe the game he wants to develop is a stealth platformer based around werewolfs or something! It sounds good when he explains it though. I believe he has a musician though.

I had an unfortunate incident yesterday involving my car! I rocked up to work with smoke coming out of the front of it (for those of you that don't know I teach animation at a filmschool). There was a good chance the car was going to end up as scrap, but luckily a mechanic bloke who lives on our street was able to put humpty together again. So I'm not carless.. Woo! If I had to fork out money for a new car it probably would have majorly screwed with my funds for my California trip this July, so I'm thankful it didn't.. Also my boss is in labor right now giving birth to a baby girl! So hopefully that goes well for her.

My Po3 game is going along smoothly, its still in design stages though. Nothing playable yet, but hopefully that'll all come together in a few weeks. I'm probably going to spend tonight writing out a summary of all the gameplay mechanics so myself and Tom will be on the same page. So because I love you, heres a design of one of the playable characters. Her name is Rumbelle.

Peace,

-Ross

(Also I approve of the new layout.. Making things bigger is so nifty)

POWER OF TREE.

Posted by RubberNinja May. 20, 2009 @ 3:18 AM EDT

I just very recently decided to go with Tom Vian of Flash Bros as the programmer in my Power of 3 team. So thanks to every who applied for that position.

I'm currently still looking for someone to produce the soundtrack for the game. So we're looking for someone with awesome musical talent. I've had a few great applicants already, but I still want to keep looking till I'm 100% sure. Sorry that I haven't responded to any of them, I'm just a tad bit overwhelmed by how many i've recieved.

Basically what I want is someone who'll be able to produce intense tracks for a fighting game engine (think Street Fighter, I suppose.. Not that its going to be a generic clone).

If you think you have what it takes, please send me a PM with links to your work. As for style of the tracks.. I'm still tossing up between a fast pace drum n' bass approach or an epic classical approach. But who knows, maybe someone might be able to change my mind.

If possible.. I'd like to be able to have discussions with the group over Skype, just so we can all get on the same page about the project. And tell tales of the sea.

EDIT:
Also one of my students from the school I work at is interested in making a game. If you're looking for a talented young animator (hes really good! All fully animated stuff).. Just shoot me a PM and I'll give you his details.

Also here's my 2009 Showreel:

POWER OF 3 - Looking for a team..

Posted by RubberNinja May. 16, 2009 @ 12:36 AM EDT

I've decided to gather a team for the Newgrounds event "POWER OF 3". I've started designing characters for a new game concept that I've come up with (completely unrelated to the game I was working on before).

EDIT:

At this point in time, I am only looking for a musician to complete the team. Please send all applications through a private message here. I'll be making my choice by the end of next week. Thanks to all the programmers who applied, but I've decided to go with Tom Vian of Flash Bros.

For Musicians, I'm looking for someone capable of creating intense atmosphere for the game. Examples of past work required.

Remember we'll be working under a tight schedule as I'm going to have limited time in July because of my trip to California.

Hope to hear from some of you soon!

Thanks!

-Ross

BLEEP BEEP BOOP.

THIS ONES A STINKER!

.

Ok, so as I mentioned in my previous post.. I've been working on a game. I've gotten a little further on getting the animation done.. Mainly trying to do a bit of tedious clean up. Other then that its looking funtastical.

I'm super fucking excited.. Because I'm going back to California this July! I'm pretty much doing exactly what I did last year. Looking forward to it heaps. So you'll see me at Comic-Con again. I promise to keep the face pulling to a minimum lmao. I should be hitting up Vegas with Ego and some CHUMPS if all goes to plan. I didn't get to go last year, but I plan to be a bit more of a tourist this time (hollywood, the whole shabang). I'll also be at something called AX with some friends of mine, if by the off chance you're going to be there to.

Also, if you're bored (or high).. Check out YooouuuTuuube!

It will trip you out O:

Slap you silly.

Take you to a wonderland.

What fun.

Peace,

Ross.

I'm making a game! STUFF inside.

Posted by RubberNinja May. 4, 2009 @ 3:23 PM EDT

Never done this before, so I guess its a learning experience. Probably going to have a friend of mine program it. I don't really have anything to show other then concept art and rough animation which can be found over at my DeviantArt. I don't feel like explaining it to everyone. I've only really done so to people in person and friends of mine. I'll do that when I have something really solid to show (since the base idea has changed like 3 times). I've had the rough idea in my noggin for a little over a year now. Really didn't start talking about it with anyone till Comic-Con last year.

Animation Rough Shiz:
Spawning/Winning
Movements
Attacks
Damage/Hit

Playable Character Concept Shiz:
Colour Test (going with the beige one!)
Character 1
Character 2
Character 3
Character 4 (only a rough doodle I did at work!)
Squiggles I did on the plane to Sydney..
Another squiggle..
EDIT:
Character 2 colour?..

Also go watch Danomano's TOFUTWO!

Peace,

-Ross
