Nocturnus

Posted by RubberNinja - October 30th, 2008

Hey Newgrounds.

My new animated short "Nocturnus" is now out, so give it a look. The cartoon is based around a parasomnia disorder I frequently suffered from at the age of 12. "Pavor Nocturnus" or Night Terrors, are a unique, delusional experience where all you can feel is fear. It's somewhat like lucid dreaming crossed with, sleep walking, nightmares and sleep paralysis. From what I read you're generally not able to remember the events, but there are some rare cases where you can. I had quite a few where I could remember elements of the episodes. Some though were only recalled by my family members, as I'd be screaming or running to them for help. So basically this cartoon is a metaphorical representation of what I saw, felt and can roughly remember.

I hope you enjoy it.

Oh and HAPPY HALLOWEEN :O!

Its kind of ridiculous you are already on the frontpage. I know other deserving artists who have to wait for a day-to-a-week before they get theirs on the front. It seems uncanny that it got their before its even passed judgement. I understand its not your fault, but it just kind of irratates me. Whatever though, my opioion holds little significance in your mind.

Oh, and cock joke.

And I'm sorry such an insignificant issue bothers you.

I enjoyed it, you obviously put a lot of emotion into this one.

Wow, that was awesome. It sent chills throughout my whole body, but it wasn't because it was scary or anything. I can't really explain. Quite possibly my favorite Halloween flash this year.

Very well animated, and surprising,it was a great flash

Creepy flash there Rubberninja.

I share your pain i had night terrors from the age of 4 - 10 it is horrible. the utter fear and pain from the experience i can recall some of the most horrible things that i experienced. for instance watching yourself die via melting while inanimate objects laugh at you, yea one of my dreams. =[ but on the good side YAY for animation!

I sleep with a bucket on my head, it really helps.

I've never had one of those. I guess I'm lucky. I kinda feel sorry for you, damn you and your child hood stories! Great flash, I reviewed. Review respond if you can!

I had a dream when I was four or five...

I was in my bed. I looked up, and all of the stuffed animals in my room next to the bench in one corner came to life and slowly started coming toward me like zombies. I ran out of the room and down the hallway, screaming for my parents. When I looked back, the slow-moving zombie-stuffed-animals were already all the way down the hall. Tigger was leading the pack.

Hah, I didn't make a Flash for Halloween this year. Maybe I should make that movie as fast as I can today.

At least now I know why you wet the bed until you were sixteen!
Nice work!

Have you ever woken up with sleep paralysis during the REM stage? Now that's a nasty sensation. Having your eyes uncontrollably dart around combined with the panic of dying - not nice. I thought I'd been shot in the head or something.

Yeah sleep paralysis and night terrors are sort of similar. Except you tend to run around the place in night terrors rather then being unable to move.

I haven't had it, but my ex-girlfriend did one night. It was very wtf.

I used to have some pretty goddam creepy dreams when i was little, but parasomnia sounds really nasty :(. Glad to hear your over it thought :)

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!! Great job with the animation!

Real animators know how to use shape tweens!

MY LIFE IS A LIE.

creepy... in a good way. love the artwork

I had a scary dream where I was being chased by John Kerry. No joke.

The flash was amazing, creepy, but amazing, i still remember dreaming about falling off a tower and just keep falling and falling until i woke up, but the scariest thing for me that rarely happens to me now is the sleep paralysis it feels like i'm awake but i can't snap out of my dream nor can i move its just awful, and one question did you ever feel like you were dying in some of your night terrors, like gasping for air or something like that?

I noticed you're sporting the Marilyn Manson version of This Is Halloween. Nice.

I don't know if it's Pavor Nocturnus, but when I was 6-10, I started to have horrible dreams too. One of them, is that I get up from my bed, go up the stairs, look at the window, and my parents are hung up and the sky is red.
Another one was that suddenly there was an high pitch sound, and my mom jumped off the balcony and died.
I think that yours is worse, idk really, I just want to forget those nightmares
