Nostalgic Cartoons

Posted by RubberNinja - November 17th, 2008

So I was looking back on some of my favourite cartoons from when I was a kid, and I had a blast of nostaglia. So I thought I'd share some of them.

Insepector Gadget:

.
/* */
This cartoon was probably the first cartoon I truley loved. I wouldn't miss a episode and I had quite a lot of the toys. I mean, he's like a private investigator cyborg with a transforming car. What's not to like?

Samurai Pizza Cats:

.
/* */
I liked this before I even knew what anime was, this show was rather awesome. A tad bit silly though.

Transformers:

.
/* */
Speaking of transforming cars, this was pretty much the most awesome thing ever. I had an obsession with dinosaurs at that time, so naturally the dino-bots were my favourite characters.

Denvor The Last Dinosaur:

.
/* */
The obsession with dinosaurs also lead me to watch this cartoon. Although I look at it now and I think it's awful. Pay attention to the lyrics. "He's my friend and a WHOLE LOT MORE", they're practically molesting him.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles:

.
/* */
I was probably one of the only people I knew who thought Donatello was the best.

The Land Before Time:

.
/* */
This movie was fucking awesome, it still is in my opinion. Brilliant animation and good music.

Fern Gulley:

.
/* */

.
/* */
This movie was just sweet. Robin Williams played my favourite character, also the animation was just stunning.

Ren & Stimpy:

.
/* */
I loved this show because it was just so "naughty" for its time.

Widget The World Watcher:

.
/* */
Widget... He could transform into anything. It's pretty awful looking back on it now, but I liked it for some reason. He sounds like a $2 hooker.

Street Sharks:

.
/* */
Generic Ninja Turtles rip off, with terrible puns... But I liked it. I had so many of the toys.

Beast Wars Transformers:

.
/* */
I would always rush home from school to catch this cartoon. Although obviously its very outdated now, it still holds a special place in my heart.

Pokemon:

.
/* */
I was rather late getting into this Pokemon trend, but I ended up watching it for a little while and rather liking it. Although it was a short lived trend here, I grew a seperate obsession with the red and blue versions of the game.

Dragon Ball Z:

.
/* */
A lot of people I knew hated it because they put it in the same bag as the passed trend "Pokemon". Yes, because it was Japanese animation. I know its just such a silly, over the top show.. But I was really into it and rarely missed an episode. I still consider it one of my favourite cartoons... I was also introduced to Sean Schemmel (english voice of Goku) at Supanova in Perth back in June this year, which I was rather stoked about.

Neon Genisis Evangelion:

.
/* */
I had no idea what was going on, but it was awesome!

Batman of the Future:

.
/* */
I never really liked Batman all that much, but I thought this cartoon had a really sharp solid style.

Digimon:

I started watching this show quite a lot on Fox Kids back when that was around on the pay TV network "Foxtel" here in Australia. It was pretty sweet, but I never really got into any of the other seasons. Around this time I started to grow out of anime, since I saw it was becoming really overused.

Justice League Unlimited:

.
/* */
Ironically, my favourite character was "The Flash". This cartoon was just great.

Invader Zim:

.
/* */
I can't begin to explain how much I love this cartoon. I idolize Jhonens work. (couldn't find a full video without the spanish lmao). I shat a brick when I met Jhonen at Comic-Con.

Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends:

.
/* */
... This is just a awesome cartoon.

That's about all I can think of for now. :)

Well I was going to bed, but I guess I could stay up all night watching my Samurai Jack DVD's and Cats Don't Dance.

Yeah i grew up with some of these as well.......inspector gadget of course.....wasnt really happy with the movie though cos it didnt reflect much of the cartoon.......the second one did which was good.

The land before time ......i watched all of ....except i forget it all now......

Heheh... ferngully is a god of an animation and still controls my life today

Ive seen some of the others as well but those three stand out for me

Do you remember Animations like Stickin' Around and Madeline?

You know what I miss? Exosquad. I always thought it had a pretty cool story to it. Didn't really feel like much of a kids show either. I was in middle school at the time that came out so had I been much younger I might have gotten bored with it. Plus it had dudes piloting robots, so that right there was enough to sell me on it. :)

Oh, and Beast Wars owns.

they called it "Batman of the Future" in Australia?

Yep.. I forget what it was called over there.

Evangelion was just superb! I didn't know what was going on when I first saw it but I decided to watch the series again recently and I appreciate it so much more now =]

Ren and Stimpy was just full of violence and sex lol
Although I never really noticed as a kid...

Fosters is an awesome show, eh? :3

Just is.

you sir have terrible taste in cartoons >:C

Batman Beyond. it's "edgy." or something.

great show, though. ExoSquad is also cool.

I got to say...Allot of those cartoons I really dig.

But have you noticed that around the time those movies like Fern Gulley was made...the whole concept was "GREEN" or "Cruelty to Animals?"

Fern Gullie
Once Uppon a Forest
The Secret of Nymph

Inspector Gadget is like my favorite Cyborg. He's going to have a new series comming 2009. More anime style. Funny but with a more dark theme.

I must have watched Land Before Time at least 120 times as a child.
"I'm Going to Watch it AGAIN!"

Street Sharks was short lived. But was cool...till I though it was lame later.

Uncut version of DBZ is the only one I'll watch.

Who can Argue with Justice League and Batman Beyond. One of the most violent series with such a provoking ideas. Way to "real" for kiddies. Which is why Adults like the series.

That was the funniest moment in all of the Foster's Home series.

Here's a rare film you might enjoy.

Warning: It's pretty graphic for a cat cartoon.

I use to watch almost all the shows! I love dragon ball Z...its SO stupid...but I LOVE IT :D

I used to love those old shows when I was little...

Why watch all those old boring cartoons when there are plenty of new masterpieces like 'Space Chimps' and 'Fly Me to the Moon'???

Coming from the guy who doesn't even know what Reboot is!

You are not alone bro. Donatello IS the best.

Fuck yeah Street Sharks, also I hear from most people that they love Donny the best.

"Batman of the Future"? Dunno how the alternate titles for other countries work out like that, strange.

Donatello freakin' kicks ass.

I could never get into Batman of the Future though. The original (BAS) was my kinda show.

Never got into Transformers, Inspector Gadget or Street Sharks.
I loved Beast Wars though. Optimus Primal fu-tu-wuh!
(I never actually realised it was a Transformers spin-off though)

Widjet the World Watch DID exist! I thought I hallucinated that show. Seriously.

Lmao, Street Sharks. I remember how those guys rocked the TV and toys when it was popular. Inspector gadget was good too, but the movies made out of it were... Bleh.

But still either way the MOST nostalgic animated series is Starzinger for me, which was an anime from the late 70s that got released here for couple of VHS casettes around '94.

i can agree with about half your choices, most of those rule.

its called batman beyond I think

Not in Australia it wasn't.
